Troy is a small New England town located in Cheshire County, in southwestern New Hampshire.  It is situated at the base of beautiful Mount Monadnock, in the center of the Monadnock region.

Troy separated from Marlborough in 1815 and was incorporated that same year.  It had originally included parts of Fitzwilliam, Richmond and Swanzey.  

An integral part of Troy’s economy for over a century was Troy Mills, located on Monadnock Street.  This huge mill complex began making horse blankets in the mid 1800’s and remained in existence until 2002. The property on Monadnock Street now houses two small mills; Cosmopolitan Textiles and Knowlton Nonwovens.  

Troy is comprised of 17.4 square miles of land and 0.2 square miles of water.  According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Troy’s population at the time was 1,962, 527 families and 733 households.  The average family size was 3.09 and the average household size was 2.68.
